For this state-of-the-art hospital, TDEG was hired to work on a one-story, 1,400-square-foot addition, and design it to withstand the extremely high-energy beams of electrons emitted from radiology equipment. Strict shielding requirements had to be met in order to ensure the safe operation of such potentially dangerous machinery. These stipulations included wall and roof thickness, which resulted in TDEG’s design of reinforced concrete up to seven feet thick in some places. The addition is adjacent to an existing treatment area also containing Linear Acceleration technology.
