Threshold Peer Review

By Evans Mountzouris, PE

Threshold Peer Review (TPR) is a review by an independent structural engineering consultant to determine if the structural plans and specifications of a structure or addition are in compliance with the structural requirements of the building code to the extent necessary to assure the stability and integrity of the primary structural support systems.

TPR’s apply to structures that exceed the threshold limits as defined in Section 106.1.5 of the Connecticut State Building Code. These limits shall apply to structures or additions 1) having 4 stories, 2) 60 feet in height, 3) with a clear span of 150 feet in width 4) containing 150,000 sq. ft. of total gross area or 5) with an occupancy of 1000 persons.

TPR’s provide a greater quality assurance for the structural design of a project. The American Council of Engineering Companies Structural Engineering Coalition of Connecticut provides guidelines to perform such reviews.”
