Description:
This new 2-story, 2,500 sf contemporary home on the shore of Long Island Sound, though modest in size, had numerous structural challenges to address. The first challenge was its location within the 50-year flood zone and the need for a timber pile and reinforced concrete foundation system to prevent the house from settling into the organic silt below.
On top of this foundation the second floor and roof platforms are supported on a structural steel frame with innovative steel flitch plate posts that allowed tall floor-to-floor heights, extensive narror mullioned perimeter glass, and an open floor plan while being exposed to strong winds off of the water.
