Congratulations are in order again for Tom Curry, recently becoming a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut, has been promoted to Senior Project Engineer here at TDEG.  Tom has spent an impressive 3 1/2 years here at TDEG having completed his MSCE while working full time and studying for and obtaining his Professional Engineer license.

ACEC/CT Engineering Award

The Di Salvo Engineering Group is honored to be receiving a Merit Award for the 2017 ACEC/CT Engineering Excellence Award competition.  The project entered was The Prospector in Ridgefield, a state-of-the-art movie theater with a deep connection to the community.  The Prospector provides vocational training in meaningful employment for adults with disabilities.   The building replaced a movie house that was built in 1939.   The architect for this award-winning project was Doyle Coffin Architecture of Ridgefield, CT.  See the group picture at the Awards Dinner on our “Did You See This?” tab.

Congratulations!

We are proud to announce that Tom Curry has passed the Principles & Practice of Engineering exam and is now a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut.  Tom received his BSCE in May 2013 from the University of Connecticut.  He completed his MSCE with a concentration in Structural Engineering in 2015 while working full-time here at TDEG.  He has been with the firm for 3 1/2 years.  Congratulations Tom!!

Project Featured

TDEG is proud to have been partnered with Voith & Mactavish Architects, LLP, Philadelphia, PA for the building of a new girls’ dormitory at Millbrook School.  Millbrook is an independent co-ed high school in Millbrook, NY.  The building was completed in 2014 to help house the growing student population.  The project was featured in Traditional Building magazine and can be seen here:  http://www.traditionalbuilding.com/new-dorm-millbrook/

 

New Awards

Two of TDEG’s projects with Gallin Beeler Design Studio were recipients of  the 2016 AIA Westchester Hudson Valley Design Awards.  In the Unbuilt/Institutional category North Bellmore Public Library received a Citation Award.  In the Municipal category, 333 Broadway, New York Entry Plaza received an Honor Award.

Employee News

TDEG is pleased to announce a new member has joined its staff.  Tianming (Tim) Ma is a graduate of Guilin University of Technology in Guangxi, China with a Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering.  In May 2016 he graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a BSCE and Master of Engineering, Civil Engineering.  Welcome Tim!

Building Code Updates

Building code updates for Connecticut, New York and New Jersey are as follows:

Connecticut:  The new Connecticut State Building Code is planned for adoption in the Fall of 2016 and will include the 2012 International Building/Residential Codes and a supplement of CT-specific items.

New York:  New York State has adopted a new building code that started on April 6, 2016 with a transition period until October 3, 2016.  The building code is based upon the 2015 International Building Code, 3rd printing and the 2015 Residential Code, 2nd printing, with NY-specific amendments.

New Jersey:  New Jersey adopted the International Building/Residential Codes, 2015 editions.  The building code is based upon the 2015 International Building/Residential Codes with NJ-specific amendments.

2016 Award

TDEG completed working on the Bronxville School Auditorium in Bronxville, NY in 2015.  The structural work involved the complete gutting and renovation of the auditorium and science wing and the addition of an entry lobby.  The architect for this project was Kaeyer, Garment & Davidson of Mount Kisco, NY.  This project was awarded the 2016 AIA NY Excelsior Award.

Summer Interns

We’re excited to welcome two interns to our team for the summer.  They are Amanda Ruyack of Brewster, NY and Andrew Gardell of Weston, CT.  Amanda will be a senior at Villanova University pursuing her BSCE.  Andrew has obtained his BSCE and is now working towards his Master’s in Civil Engineering.

Promotions at The Di Salvo Engineering Group

The Di Salvo Engineering Group, Structural Engineers, of Ridgefield, is happy to announce the following promotions in 2016:

Stephen Lehigh, who came on board as a Senior Project Engineer in May 2015, has been promoted to Project Manager.  Steve is a 2004 graduate of State University of New York Technology at Utica/Rome with a BSCE.  He is a registered professional engineer in both Connecticut and New York.

Ryan Walsh was hired in September 2015 as a Project Engineer and was recently promoted to Senior Project Engineer.  Ryan graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BSCE from University of Connecticut in 2010.  He is also a registered professional engineer in Connecticut and New York.

Jason Henion and Christian Briggs were both promoted from Engineer to Project Engineer.  They both started their employment at TDEG in July 2014.
